Bringing back trucks long-forgotten seems to be the trend, and Chevrolet will keep the trend going with 2023 Chevy Kodiak. Many brands decided it might be a good idea to dig deep and resurrect pickup trucks that were loved decades ago. Bronco was one of those, we might even see an El Camino comeback. Although some of the trucks receive regular updates and remodels, some of them have been long forgotten and dust began to settle on them.
Chevrolet is trying to bring back one of those ancient legends in the form of the 2023 Chevy Kodiak. It was first made in the ‘80s and the last remodel was done more than 10 years ago. In terms of technology and vehicles, this is eons actually. A lot has changed over that past decade and there is a lot of space for improvements on the Kodiak. So what exactly did Chevy have in mind while remodeling this truck and how is it going to make it better?
Chevy Kodiak Interior Features
The 2023 Chevy Kodiak is competing for the top dog spot in the category of mid-size workhorse pickup trucks. Competitors are many, and there is a lot you need to do in order to come out on top. We don’t expect the cabin to be like a space shuttle or bedazzled with super-advanced technological gadgets. But don’t believe for a minute if someone tells you it is going to be like the inside of a backyard shed. As with most vehicles, Chevy is going to take inspiration for the interior from the Silverado 1500 pickup truck. This is one of the flagship trucks and is very popular on the road.
So why not take the best from your line and adapt it to the needs of a workhorse truck. Since it is not a luxury vehicle, but a car that is meant to be put to work we can expect it to look as such. The dashboard is going to be the same as with the Silverado truck. Perhaps some digitalization is in order since it is a 2023 model. For the basic trim don’t expect leather and great quality stitching, but higher trims and more expensive ones might see this change happen. A central infotainment system is quite the industry standard. We hope to see at least an 8-inch touchscreen in the middle of the cabin. Heated and ventilated seats would be a great addition since the truck is going to be used for a long time.
Probably in working clothes so it would make the driver feel more comfortable. Expect standard connectivity, nothing too fancy. This means Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with Bluetooth. The surround system should be a basic one, nothing branded. Which is still fine as long as it has some bass to it. The 2023 Chevy Kodiak will come in two versions. Regular and crew cab trims. We would most certainly like to see Chevy put some quality materials on the inside so the cabin doesn’t wear off after a while.
Exterior Design
Chevrolet is going to use a well-known architecture for the upcoming 2023 Chevy Kodiak. Again the Silverado HD will be an inspiration and this brings some new and better changes to the Kodiak truck line. New architecture should make the truck more sturdy and powerful. This will be important for people who are using the track for what it is meant to do.
Hauling, towing and utility work are categories where the Kodiak will excel. With the standard color choices, Chevy planned to add a couple more, perhaps we will see a camouflage print, like for the Colorado pickup, or maybe a color combination on the outside of the 2023 Chevy Kodiak. For those who like to work during the dark, Chevy is planning on putting a top row of LED headlights on the roof. This will greatly improve visibility. Wheels are kept intact, nothing wrong with those big 18s so why even think about them.
The front grille could get even bigger, there might be several reasons for this. The first one is the sheer prospect of modernizing the truck. Making it more aggressive and modern to fit today’s standards. Even Though it is meant for work, nothing wrong with making it look good while doing it. Also, this can improve airflow and decrease temperatures under the hood to allow for longer working sessions and push the truck to its limits.
Engine Options and Specs
Since it is not the most expensive truck, we suspect Chevy is not changing a lot in the engine department for the 2023 Chevy Kodiak. It is most likely to sport a 6.6-liter Duramax engine. This turbo diesel workhorse can provide up to 445 horsepower and is heavily present in the Silverado truck line. It can also spin wheels up to 910 pound-feet of torque, which is a lot. More than enough to get you out of tough spots and allow you to haul more weight, transport more cargo, and do it quickly.
The transmission model is still a gray area, we are not sure whether it will be automatic transmission or manual. There is also a possibility for a 6.6-liter gasoline V8 beast. This can go up to 350 horsepower, and a mere 464 pound-feet of torque. There is very little chance of there being a hybrid or an all-electric version of the 2023 Chevy Kodiak. So don’t hold your breath.
2023 Chevy Kodiak Price and Release Date
The truck will hit the dealerships sometime in the last quarter of 2022 or early 2023. This is just in time when other manufacturers reveal their creations. The main competitor is Ford. As far as the price is concerned, we have no official statement but we predict it will be far below the $50 000 mark.
