Another mid-cycle refresh is coming up, this time around it is the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Already a proven truck, with a good track record, Silverado 2500 HD is looking to build upon that reputation. Some of its main draws were, good towing capacity, good fuel economy, it was sturdy and it had the look. The Silverado line of trucks is one of the most powerful on the market. Chevy needs to keep that hype train going and improve the Silverado 2500 HD in any way possible. Ford and RAM are trying to catch up, and win the hearts of drivers.
Some areas where Silverado fell a bit behind its competitors are the interior and technology. But this is nothing that cannot be repaired with a mid-cycle refresh and introduction of new gadgets to match the competition. Although this is a mid-cycle refresh we could expect some more drastic changes. But we don’t believe that the entire interior will be made from scratch. Or that the body dimensions will change drastically. Whatever might be the case, the Silverado 2500 HD is getting upgraded. Let us dig deep into the review to see what is in store for us.
Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Interior Accessories
The cabin looks quite remodeled in the new 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Starting with the seats, we can see right away that Chevy paid some attention to this portion of the cabin. They forgot all about the racing-type seats and made brand new ones. This is intended as a working truck but that doesn’t mean you should travel without comfort and style. They gave it more cushioning, which means you won’t be uncomfortable even on the bumpiest or longest of rides. They are also heated and ventilated. This is a standard feature nowadays in most trucks.
But this simple trick increases comfort and makes you feel like you are flying first class. The instrument panel has two colors, hopefully, there is a palette from which we can choose. There are 2 glove compartments. It is lined with leather and soft feel plastic. Also, we forgot to mention that seats can be fabric, leather, and suede. This is great, that way you can personalize the truck to your liking. There are a number of buttons and knobs all along the instrument panel.
Also, they are present on the steering wheel. This improves the safety aspect as drivers don’t have to take their eyes off the road in order to change the setting. There is a central infotainment system which hopefully isn’t too small. We believe that 13 inches would be enough for everyone to join in on the fun. The dashboard isn’t digital, which honestly is a disappointment. We see more and more manufacturers making this move and it is a nice step toward the future. Talking about the future,
Chevy is planning on putting SuperCruise into the new 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. This is driver’s aid software for hands-free driving. The trick is, however, that you can use it only on pre-mapped roads. Currently, there are 200 000 miles of mapped road on which you can relax and take your hands off the steering wheel. This doesn’t mean you can simply doze off, you still have to pay attention to your surroundings.
We should mention that this software has pedestrian detection, incoming collision alert, and many other features to keep everyone on the road safe. Adding ambient lighting and a panoramic roof is something that looks like the logical outcome. It can increase luxury which this truck could probably use. All in all, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is looking well designed on the inside.
Exterior Redesign
On the outside, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD looks nothing less than extraordinary. As we said, this is a full-size truck with heavy lifting in mind. It resides on lightweight alloy rims, depending on the trim they range from 17 inches to 20. They are lightweight to save weight since this truck could use them for sure. By doing that they improve power to weight ratio and give the pickup much better performance. The cargo bed has a huge volume, 83.5 cubic feet to be exact. Which is more than Ford and Ram rivals.
It has a multi-flex tailgate, which basically means you have a tailgate with another tailgate. It can act as a bed step, working surface, seat, or load stop. We should also mention that you have a Bluetooth speaker in the back so you can blast your favorite tunes while working. The hood looks rejuvenated with a more sporty look. The front fascia is huge so it can let a lot of air under the said hood. This keeps everything cool in the engine department. That way you can feel free to push your truck to its limits.
Engine Specs, Towing Capacity
The 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will be using the good old Duramax V8. It can produce 505 horsepower and 1085 pound feet of torque. There is also the 6.6 liter V8 that uses gasoline. This beast can produce 401 horsepower and 464-pound feet of torque. They both come with six-speed automatic transmission. But a 10-speed Allison transmission is also available.
All-wheel drive is standard. There is no news about a hybrid variant. This is not a surprise, the heavy lifting that this truck needs to do would require a lot of energy. Which would translate to a lot of time spent on charging stations and technology simply can’t fix that issue at this point.
2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Price and Release Date
We can hope to see the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD on the road in late 2022. Hopefully, the date doesn’t get pushed back due to supply chain issues because of the pandemic. Starting price is $38000 for the basic version. Fully equipped, the price can spike up to $50000.
