It looks like we will be getting a new EV truck, let’s find out what the 2023 Ford F150 Lightning Electric Truck is.
An American manufacturer is going to add another truck to the F-150 line. But this time it is an all-electric vehicle. Technology has advanced a lot over the last decade and electric vehicles are able to run far and long without any trouble.
Although EVs are somewhat more expensive when buying, it pays off in the long run. With ever-increasing gas prices it is prerogative for manufacturers to make more and more electric vehicles. This is both good for the planet and buyers. But it is always a question of how far they can go on a single charge. After all, not all gas stations are equipped with an electric charger. Although nowadays it is becoming more popular, and you can find said chargers even in most shopping malls.
Read on to find out the range specifications and the release date of the new Ford F150 Lightning Electric Truck.
2023 Ford F150 Lightning Trims, Safety, and Design
Considering that the 2023 Ford F150 Lightning Electric Truck is a part of the F-150 line, it is safe to assume that most of the stuff will be borrowed from the standard F-150.
The interior is going to resemble the one of a gas-powered F150. But expect this model to be more modern and equipped with more gadgets. There will for sure be leather and cloth as an option for upholstery. Based on the trims drivers will be able to choose their preference. The trims options will be called Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. Our conclusion would be that the Platinum one is the most expensive and will carry most additions with it.
According to rumors, this option includes a 15.5-inch infotainment system while the cheapest trim offers a 12-inch variant. Passengers will be able to control everything that is connected to the battery from this infotainment system. This includes air conditioning, seat settings, and windows. Also, it would be nice to have heated and ventilated seats. This can make even the hottest summer days and coldest winter nights comfortable during a drive. And also it is almost standard in trucks nowadays.
Safety
There will be also driver’s aid system. Systems like these can improve driver and passenger safety. They will help the person behind the wheel during difficult and dangerous situations. Ford’s system is the most similar to Tesla Autopilot, which we all know is a piece of art. It would be nice to see what other amenities we would get in basic and higher trims of the 2023 Ford F150 Lightning.
Perhaps a surround system that is branded, would make rides even more enjoyable by listening to your favorite tunes. A panoramic roof would also be a good addition. We expect cameras and sensors to be all around the car to enable people to park with ease.
What about exterior design?
The 2023 Ford F150 Lightning is an all-electric pickup truck, which we can conclude from the name itself. So it is kind of special even though it is part of the F150 truck line. But Ford made sure to make the Lightning stand out in the crowd.
The front fascia will be different, this is simply to distinguish it from the gas-guzzling siblings. After all, this is a vehicle that is friendly to the environment. There is a LED bar that goes from one side to the other on the front and if that doesn’t say high tech we don’t know what does. The wheels themselves will be more aerodynamic. They are made from lightweight materials for sure.
Perhaps Ford can use alloys used in aircraft, this would save even more weight, enabling the car to go further and faster with a single charge. There are several sizes for wheels, 18, 20, and 22 inches. Not sure if these are just for concept or are they able as choices for buyers. There are also words about the convertible version, which we don’t see very often in the truck game. But we welcome this change with arms widespread.
2023 Ford F150 Lightning Powertrain, and Specs
The 2023 Ford F150 Lightning indicates that there are two motors under the hood that power 4 wheels. Meaning that 4×4 drive(all-wheel drive) is standard in all trims.
Interesting thing is that these motors deliver more power and torque than any engine in the Ford truck line. These bad boys can produce 563 horsepower and 775 pound feet of torque. Which is more than enough to haul, tow, and go ridiculously fast on the road and off it.
Available driving modes are Normal, Off-Road, Sport, and Tow/Haul. The truck can go from zero to sixty in around 4 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle this big and heavy. Expect a lot of aluminum and other lightweight materials because Ford is trying to shave off weight from the big truck.
The payload is around 2000 pounds while towing capacity is around 7700 pounds but can go up to 10.000 pounds with the extended range configuration.
There are Standard range and Extended range battery packs. They provide 230 miles and 300 miles respectively. Ford is using Lithium-ion batteries, which are the best available and will ensure longevity and effectiveness. A full charge can be achieved in under 40 minutes, which is quite amazing.
Price and Release Date
Ford will release the 2023 F150 Lightning Electric Truck sometime in late 2022. Perhaps 2023 if we are unlucky and there are setbacks due to the pandemic problems.
The price for the basic trim is $39.974 and can shoot up to $90.474 for the Platinum version.
