GMC is about to start production of their brand new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD. This is another heavy-duty truck in the GMC lineup. It did receive a redesign recently so the extent of planned changes is still unknown. It is a full-size pickup that has been on the market for over two decades. Very versatile as it comes with two and all-wheel drive. There are several trims included for the Sierra 2500 HD. And they all serve a good purpose. They differ in luxury, engine, technology and the price varies greatly. It is all about what you need it for. The truck was graded excellent on towing and hauling capacity.
The recent Silverado redesign wasn’t a great success on the market. So GMC is trying to get back in the game by doing things the right way with the 2500 HD. Expect to see interior upgrades. These will concern the style and technology used. No one likes an outdated cabin. On the outside minor changes are probable, nothing drastic as it is not a new generation of the Sierra 2500 HD. Powertrain options are plenty so it will be interesting to see what is going to happen there. Let us continue reading about more details concerning the upcoming Sierra redesign.
GMC Sierra 2500HD Interior
The inside of the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD is going to be as luxurious as it can possibly be. Designers decided to not neglect the cabin of this full-size truck. This is a godsend for drivers who aren’t using the Sierra 2500 HD for work exclusively. As we all know, trucks are now a style statement and many use them for their everyday agenda. Seats are receiving a much-needed redo. They are getting more cushioning and better lumbar support. We don’t have to go raving about why that is good.
Expect to see a lot of leather and other alternative materials in the cabin. For example, the instrument panel and doors will be lined with chrome and wood accents. This is screaming first-class luxury. There is a horizontally oriented touchscreen for infotainment. It shouldn’t be less than 12 inches per report. This way back row of passengers can join in. This is great since the Sierra 2500 HD seats five people without an issue. There is plenty of legroom and headroom in the cabin.
The steering wheel also received cushioning so it is not too hard on the hand after a long drive. There are buttons present on the steering wheel. This way drivers don’t have to look away for no good reason. The dashboard is turned to fully digital. This allows for customization and you can choose which information about the truck you want to keep visible. We are unsure if there is going to be a tailor-made surround system, but it wouldn’t hurt to have one.
Exterior Facelift
The 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD looks menacing. It is huge and it roars mightily. There is a huge front fascia that lets a lot of air under the hood. This keeps everything cool in the engine department. Allowing drivers to push their trucks to their limits. We get huge 20-inch lightweight wheel alloys. Tires will depend on the trim, but there are off-roading ones. Side mirrors are huge. This allows you to keep track of your cargo when towing something.
The ride height is unchanged, and there was no need. It has prominent bumpers that have hooks for specific occasions. On the top, it has several LED lights, but perhaps a unified LED bar would be better. Sierra still has square-looking headlights which offer the best possible visibility. Tailgate is updated and has several cool options. Which you will have to discover for yourself.
Engine Lineup Remains
There are numerous options when it comes to different trims of the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD. But they are all planned with the same engine. This sounds like a disappointment but it isn’t actually. The engine in question is reliable. Has good fuel economy. And can produce enough power to move the big Sierra around with ease. We are talking about a 6.6 liter V8 petrol engine. It has 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. There is a turbo diesel option that has 445 horsepower but 910 pound-feet of torque.
It comes with front and all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. Although the diesel engine has 10-speed automatic transmission As far as towing and hauling are concerned, Sierra did not disappoint. It can tow around 36000 pounds. The platform of the pickup is unchanged, it will continue to ride on the same GM T1 platform. The lack of more choices is not a bad thing. This is thanks to the engine being a monster and being able to carry the load. Perhaps refreshing the engine department with a sprinkle of electricity.
A hybrid version would be a godsend. Especially for planet earth and for driver’s wallets. In the long run, it is a much less expensive option. Not to mention that technology has gone far and now electric motors combined with smaller petrol engines can do wonders. Also, full electrification is possible, just look at F-150 Lightning. It can have a good range and great towing and hauling specifications. It is actually strange that GMC didn’t jump earlier on the electric train. Strap a big battery pack, hopefully, 200 kWh on the Sierra 2500 HD, and let it roll.
