The GMC is giving their latest Sierra a facelift. The 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is getting a mid-cycle redesign. This time around it is going to be ready for any off-roading opportunity. There are some things that need changing if we want to roam through the outskirts. Usual off-roading treatment means several things. We get bigger and beefier tires. The truck should have a higher ride height. Bumpers need to be put at a certain angle in order to not get caught on obstacles. Plates under the truck that can protect it from objects under the pickup. Perhaps a headlight bar on top of the roof.

There are many ways to make a pickup off-road worthy. We believe that GMC managed to do it properly this time around. Giving special treatment to certain truck lines isn’t unheard of. The price will be greater because of this, no doubt. But we are in the belief that it will be well worth it. Of course, the exterior is not the only department that the Sierra could use help with. GMC needs to pay attention to engine specifications and interior design. Let us look in better detail at what this redesign means for truck lovers.

Interior Upgrades

Although the new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X is all about scaling the obstacles, it doesn’t mean that the interior is getting neglected. The new Sierra AT4X is getting a touch-up in the cabin. We will be able to enjoy better comfort even though the truck will climb rocks, literally. Expect multiple choices for materials used for seating. We can have leather, suede, and fabric. This enables better customization on the driver’s side. Better cushioning is a must.

This truck will go where no truck has gone before, and it needs to provide a comfortable ride for passengers. Otherwise, people will be getting a stiff back after an hour in the new Sierra. Heated and ventilated seats are also present. This makes sure that you won’t get sweaty or cold even in the harshest weather conditions. There is an interior treatment called Obsidian Rush that is black leather with red and white double stitching. This is an amazing improvement on the style side. The instrument panel is becoming a bit minimalistic. Fewer buttons and knobs but with a big touchscreen infotainment system.

The new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X has ash wood along the panel and along the doors. These accents simply scream first-class luxury. The infotainment system is at least 13 inches, this allows the back row of passengers to enjoy the fun as well. The surround system is made by Bose and has a 12-speaker setup. Front seats have a 16-way power massage feature. This will relax you on your long drives.

GMC Sierra AT4X Looks Aggressive

The new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X never looked more aggressive. It has prominent bumpers made of steel. They have a winching capability to pull friends or yourself out of trouble. Approaching skid plates are also Boron steel. So if you get stranded on something, it won’t pierce the truck. The headlight design is a bit changed, it is a C-shaped headlight using the latest LED technology. The front fascia has a large mesh with big CMG lettering.

There are also gloss-black door handles and accents on the tailgate. On the bottom of the pickup, there are skid plates that are 3.5 times stronger than cold-stamped steel. They protect everything, including steering gear, transfer case, fuel tank, and locking differentials. Everything else on the Sierra is pretty much unchanged. But these improvements are tailor-made for off-roading and will make the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X a force to be reckoned with.

Engine Specs

With the off-road nameplate, a lot of weight is added. The truck was already on the heavy side. So excess weight is not something we like to see. But GMC decided to not pay too much attention to that fact. Payload capacity has decreased because of this. Now it is 1420 pounds hauling and 8900 towing. With the special AEV AT4X version, it is decreased to 1290 hauling and 8700 towing. Not much but still it makes a difference. The engine will remain the same, which is a surprise honestly.

We get a 6.2 liter V8 that gives 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. More than enough to make the truck fly on any type of road. With the AT4X treatment, we can expect a new suspension for the Sierra. It is adjustable and we get locking differentials as well. The AT4X AEV edition of the Sierra has 33-inch Goodyear tires that are on the large side. It has an approach angle of 32.5 degrees which is amazing for a truck. The departure angle is 23.4 degrees. This makes life easier when you are going down a rough path or climbing a steep road.

The AEV has skid plates under the truck. This is basically under armor for the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X. These skids are 3.5 times stronger than regular steel plates. The engine has a 10-speed automatic transmission which is expected. And of course, all-wheel driving is available. Springs increase maximum front and rear suspension travel. It has terrain mode which is a controlled descent mode. It can also enable rock crawling with amazing control over the vehicle. There isn’t any official news about the electrification of the Sierra AT4X. This would be interesting to see. More and more manufacturers are choosing this path of development for their pickups. GMC might be late to the party if you ask us.

2023 GMC Sierra AT4X Price and Release Date

Expect to see the new 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X on the road later in 2023. Hopefully, the date doesn’t get pushed back due to supply chain issues. Also, the price is a bit higher than we like to see. It will cost you $79295 to sit and drive in the new off-roading Sierra. This might be the biggest setback for this pickup.
