Recently there have been rumors spewing that Mitsubishi is about to release a brand new 2023 Mitsubishi L200. This would cause a lot of trouble in the mid-size truck category. It is already crowded and many top dogs are competing for the best truck crown. With Mitsubishi releasing the famed Triton, it could mean the pecking order would get disturbed a lot. Some of its main competitors are Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, Chevy Canyon, and Colorado. Jeep and Honda are also entering the game, it is going to be quite difficult to discern which truck is the best for your needs.
But variety is good if you ask us. A bigger plate to choose from. The updates on the L200 are much needed. The current model has been around since 2015 and the style and technology are quite outdated. In order for it to have a chance, Mitsubishi has to give it what it needs to win. Although we don’t expect the truck to be built from scratch on a new platform, we don’t know a lot about it just yet. The manufacturer is silent on this but we can see some big redesigns incoming. Let us dig deeper to see what is in store for us this summer coming from the Japanese manufacturer.
Mitsubishi L200 Interior Changes
One of the biggest pros of the current L200 is that it looked amazingly well on the outside. One of the biggest cons is that the interior doesn’t. There was a big discrepancy between the two and the cabin simply isn’t on par with the outside of the L200. But the brand new 2023 Mitsubishi L200 is about to change all that. We all know how trucks nowadays simply aren’t just about functionality and towing. They are a style statement nowadays and they need to be designed as well as some SUVs or sedans. Starting with the seats, they need to have better quality. More comfort and style is a must in the cabin and we believe Mitsubishi is about to deliver.
The new seats are hopefully better for starters and some lumbar support wouldn’t hurt. That way you can feel comfortable and enjoy longer rides without getting a stiff back. Seats should also look good, so giving them two colors and contrast stitching is a must. For materials hopefully, there is a choice, not everyone likes leather. We guess that suede and fabric will be available as well.
The instrument panel could use some bedazzle, some chrome or wooden accents are a great way to make the cabin look and feel luxurious. An infotainment system in the middle is a standard feature nowadays. Hopefully, not be less than 12 inches since this is a mid-size pickup and can fit five people comfortably. That way everyone can join in on the fun from the back row. We are still uncertain of cab versions that will be available, so keep an eye out for that information.
The steering wheel has buttons as well which improves the safety aspect. That way the driver doesn’t need to take his eyes off the road and it can improve the safety aspect. We are head of driver’s aid helping people get out of difficult situations so installing software like that should be good enough. SuperCruise and BlueCruise are hands-free driving software from Chevy and Ford. They can let you relax behind the steering wheel for a while.
Although you can’t actually sleep, it is very useful. You have to use it on pre-mapped roads and it is limited. But it will be interesting to see whether Mitsubishi introduces its own software that can do just this. The dashboard could be all-digital, that would be a nice step toward the future. Adding a panoramic roof and ambient lighting is a nice touch-up as well.
Exterior Redesign
On the outside, we can also see things changing, but the exterior of the 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will look somewhat similar to the 2015 version. First of all, there should be fewer lines and a blocky look. Nowadays everyone wants their truck to be sleek and modern. This means more angles and more curves. By doing that designers are also making the truck more ergonomic and aerodynamic. Making it more aggressive and also improving fuel economy. There is a storage rail on top of the truck which is nice, considering you have a full 5.5 feet cargo bed.
The wheels are 20-inch lightweight alloys. Wrapped with, allegedly, Goodyear tires. This could mean that the truck will be off-roading capable. On the front, there is a dark mesh from lightweight material with a well-known Mitsubishi sign on the front. It lets enough air under the hood to keep everything cool. There are two rows of headlights that wrap around that mesh. They are the latest LED technology to ensure the best visibility. It should have one of the highest ride heights in class. Which is another thing pointing toward an off-roading ready vehicle.
Engine Specs
The new 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will have a 2.3-liter turbodiesel engine under the hood. It has four cylinders and can produce 145 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Which isn’t a lot compared to its competitors. There is a 2.4-liter diesel engine with 180 horsepower available. It can tow 7500 pounds with ease. But the biggest news is the hybrid system.
It is the same one that can be found in the Outlander PHEV model. This would be an excellent choice for the L200 as it has a proven track record and is good for the environment. It will be interesting to see if Mitsubishi decides to go full electric with the 2023 Mitsubishi L200.
2023 Mitsubishi L200 Release Date, Price
We can expect the starting price to be around $31000 for the basic package. With all the amenities we speculate that the price could spike up as far as $45000. Which is still cheaper than most competition. It should hit the road in late 2022.
