We might be getting a 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel shortly. This might be quite strange to hear, after all, all other companies are scrapping their diesel variants. All diesel engines are getting discontinued while Toyota is making a comeback for Tundra with a diesel engine. It might be interesting to know also that the previous Toyota Tundra didn’t have the diesel option. This line of Tundra might be updated with a hybrid or twin-turbo version of the engine.
This is excellent news, the more variety the better. That way every driver can choose what powertrain suits them the best. The main benefit of diesel is that they are more fuel-efficient than gasoline engines. And if they introduce a hybrid variant, well that is even better for Toyota and the drivers’ wallets. It will be interesting to see what type of changes the manufacturer introduced in their upcoming 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel. Read on to find out more about the upcoming truck.
Toyota Tundra Diesel Interior Details
Changes are coming to the 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel, and they are starting on the inside of the big truck. First of all, there were some concerns about the comfortability of the truck itself. In today’s world, it is not enough for a truck to pull weight and haul cargo. It also needs to do it efficiently and comfortably as well. Putting some comfort and making the cabin feel luxurious is a great way to make fans happy. Making the cabin bigger and improving seating is the prerogative in the 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel.
So using leather as upholstery or at least some higher quality fabric would be a huge step towards this goal. Quality stitching is also a must since no one likes getting tears in seats after a year. The car already has enough legroom and people in the back will be able to enjoy the ride.
There are rumors about an 8-inch screen for the infotainment unit. But also you can opt for the bigger version, it goes all the way up to 14 inches which is even better in our book. There is enough connectivity, the industry standards are available. This means Bluetooth with wifi hotspot, also Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. News is that the stereo system was made by JBL which means great quality music for audiophiles. As far as driver safety is concerned, Toyota didn’t disappoint here either. Expect to see their own driver aid software to keep people safe on the road.
Also, cameras all around the truck to make parking seem like a stroll in the park. Going all digital on the dashboard would be a nice addition as technology has advanced a lot and it might be easier to keep track of. It is still uncertain how many trims and options will be available for the customization of the interior. But we expect it to be quite a few. But Toyota made some big moves on the inside and so far we are liking it.
Tundra is already one of the most sought-after trucks in its class. We don’t see that changing with the 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel coming out soon. Toyota made sure to use the already good formula and built upon that. And build up and improve they did. The overall look won’t stray far away from the gasoline version. But some tweaks are possible.
It will still be a square-shaped monster, with fewer angles. This is strange since all other manufacturers are trying to introduce angles and roundness to their trucks. This is believed to be the new modern standard and make the car look more aggressive. There will be a lot of trim levels available so lots of options to choose from. A LED bar on the top of the car should be available. One big reason to put that on top of the roof is better visibility and better driver safety.
The whole truck will be based on the already proven TNGA-F platform that can fit the biggest of engines. The diesel variants might be a bit heavier than the gasoline version, reasons for that are probably in the different specifications of the engine. But Toyota can save weight by using alternate materials. For example, they could shave off weight by using aluminum on the big grille or the wheels. This in turn improves power to weight ratio and further builds on the success of the diesel engine.
Diesel Engine Specs
No official statement on the exact specs for the engine of the 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel. So far we believe there will be several powertrain options. Look out for a heavily used twin-turbo V6 engine used in the new HiLux.
We currently know that Toyota’s V8 can produce up to 380 horsepower and spin up to 400-pound feet of torque. Which is not too much, but a sweet spot rather for trucks this size. Also, the diesel variant should be able to produce 275 horsepower with 500-pound feet of torque.
Don’t think for a second that because it is weaker in the horsepower department that this will affect the efficiency of the truck. That is not the only column we are looking at when choosing an engine or a truck.
With the introduction of the diesel variant, it will be interesting to see if Toyota is going to introduce a hybrid or an all-electric vehicle in the Tundra, and Tacoma line of trucks. This would be a huge step towards saving the environment and a big win for drivers. EVs are cheaper in the long run.
2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel Release Date and Price
We expect the new 2023 Toyota Tundra Diesel to hit the road sometime in the late quarter of 2022. Due to pandemic problems, this might get pushed to early 2023 but we are still hoping for the former.
Starting price for the current Tundra is around $40.000 so expect the new engine to increase those numbers a bit.
